In the end, I believe the oligarchy makes a serious miscalculation when they consider the chances of their "Brave New World" ever working. The cynical, Huxlian, and misanthropic view assumes the desire for Beauty, Truth and Goodness is something that can be stamped out, and thus the brave new world is something achievable. In reality, I believe that as things have gotten increasingly ugly, the desire for truth and beauty has only grown.
It may sound counter-intuitive, but I think it's indicative of the non-linear nature of the creative human species, as opposed to the merely beast-like blank slates the oligarchy assumes everyone to be.
