I must read this fine fable to my grandchildren. There is a beautiful river near their home, which can have very strong currents in the winter-time. So this might help them to be wary of it. The whole tale is set up so nicely that I can simply ask them: 'What is the message from this story?'

Of course, this story may have deeper meanings also. But sometimes a river can be just a river, and a foolish frog exactly that, when that will suffice. Well done, David!

This is such a wonderful fable, David! I greatly enjoyed reading it. It puts me in mind of Aesop and the timeless wisdom of his own fables. I think you have captured that same wisdom here. Being “wary of what the surface conceals” is always needful, especially during this dark time in human history. Brilliant work!

Yes, I agree, Shannon. I think it's quite an achievement to write something as deceptive simple as this, that has lessons for us all - both old and young, which I think was the original, universal purpose of all fables.
